Welcome to Troop 72 and 4172

100 Years of Scouting

San Bruno’s Troop 72 received its first charter from the Boy Scout of America in May 1917. We are one of the longest running Scout units in the Bay Area and have been in continuous service since 1922. On February 1, 2019, the first day such a unit could be formed, we founded our partner Girls Troop 4172.

We meet Thursday evenings, year-round at 7:00 p.m. Meetings last 90 minutes. During the school year we meet at John Muir Elementary School and during the summer months we meet at San Bruno City Park. Our Troops place an emphasis on high adventure. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month. Most months, those events include opportunities to camp outdoors. Our Troop spends one week each year at summer camp at Wente Scout Reservation near Willits California. During the summer, we feature a high adventure trip, such as backpacking in the Sierras and treks to the BSA High-Adventure Bases. We currently have the following trips planned:

2024: Sea Base (Florida and St. Thomas)
2025: Northern Tier High Adventure
2026: National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtal Reserve (to be run by Pacific Skyline Council)
2027: Philmont Scout Ranch BSA. The 26th World Scout Jamboree will also take place this year near Gdańsk, Poland

Our members are from San Bruno and the surrounding communities including Millbrae, Pacifica and South San Francisco. Upcoming Troop Meetings:

We're meeting at John Muir at 7:00 for the school year.
Scouts who have not completed their fitness requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class or First class need to bring their tracking sheet to the October 22 (or any earlier) Troop meeting.
November 19 is the last day for Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review for First Class, Star and Life Rank before the December Court of Honor. Please plan accordingly. I expect to have several SMC's and BOR's for Tenderfoot and Second Class on December 3.

Please remember the Troop meeting start times (6:30 in San Bruno City Park and 7:00 at John Muir). PLC members should be there 15 minutes early for last minute instructions. I realize some of our Scouts have another activity immediately prior to the Troop meeting, but we ask everyone else to be courteous and be on time to the start of the meeting.

For Terrence's Eagle scout project he and the other scouts helped make a paverstone concrete retaining wall at John Muir Elementary. It was 4 days with a total of 30 hours of service.

Wente 2026

We had a great time at Wente this year. We got to go rifle shooting, swimming, boating, and did a lot of fishing. Also, there was a 5.6 magnitude earthquake while we were there and we got 2nd place in our Wentathalon heat.
