Welcome to Troop 72 and 4172

100 Years of Scouting

San Bruno’s Troop 72 received its first charter from the Boy Scout of America in May 1917. We are one of the longest running Scout units in the Bay Area and have been in continuous service since 1922. On February 1, 2019, the first day such a unit could be formed, we founded our partner Girls Troop 4172.

We meet Thursday evenings, year-round at 7:00 p.m. Meetings last 90 minutes. During the school year we meet at John Muir Elementary School and during the summer months we meet at San Bruno City Park. Our Troops place an emphasis on high adventure. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month. Most months, those events include opportunities to camp outdoors. Our Troop spends one week each year at summer camp at Wente Scout Reservation near Willits California. During the summer, we feature a high adventure trip, such as backpacking in the Sierras and treks to the BSA High-Adventure Bases. We currently have the following trips planned:

2024: Sea Base (Florida and St. Thomas)
2025: Northern Tier High Adventure
2026: National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtal Reserve (to be run by Pacific Skyline Council)
2027: Philmont Scout Ranch BSA. The 26th World Scout Jamboree will also take place this year near Gdańsk, Poland

Our members are from San Bruno and the surrounding communities including Millbrae, Pacifica and South San Francisco. Upcoming Troop Meetings:

Our next PLC meeting is on Novmeber 20 at 6:00 p.m. We'll be covering meeting plans for December.
We'll be having a full Court of Honor on December 18, including awarding Aaron, Dante, Jiawei, Jordan and Stelios their Eagle Rank. The Court of Honor will be at the Elk's Lodge in Scout San Francisco. See the calendar for details.
The Troop is off for Thanksgiving on November 27, and the winter holdidays December 25 and January 1.

Please remember the Troop meeting start times (6:30 in San Bruno City Park and 7:00 at John Muir). PLC members should be there 15 minutes early for last minute instructions. I realize some of our Scouts have another activity immediately prior to the Troop meeting, but we ask everyone else to be courteous and be on time to the start of the meeting.

San Pedro Valley Park Hike

The scouts had a refreshing hike on Saturday through San Pedro Valley Park to complete a 10-mile hike toward the hiking merit badge. We noted many signs of wildlife, enjoyed the cool mist on the mountain, and got good use of our rain gear. We were rewarded in the afternoon with some nice views and a rainbow forest! Great work scouts!

John's Eagle Project

For his Eagle Project, John and his volunteers constructed two planter boxes and a bench for St. Roberts Church. The finished project fit in perfectly!

Aria's Eagle Project

Aria led Scouts to build tables for the students at Allen Elementary for her Eagle Project. The group drilled, sanded, and stained to make beautiful additions to the school.

At this year's Gold Rush Campout at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation, scouts participated in activities like archery, blacksmithing, gold panning, tomahawks, shooting, and more!
