Welcome to Troop 72 and 4172

100 Years of Scouting

San Bruno’s Troop 72 received its first charter from the Boy Scout of America in May 1917. We are one of the longest running Scout units in the Bay Area and have been in continuous service since 1922. On February 1, 2019, the first day such a unit could be formed, we founded our partner Girls Troop 4172.

We meet Thursday evenings, year-round at 7:00 p.m. Meetings last 90 minutes. During the school year we meet at John Muir Elementary School and during the summer months we meet at San Bruno City Park. Our Troops place an emphasis on high adventure. We plan at least one weekend outdoor activity a month. Most months, those events include opportunities to camp outdoors. Our Troop spends one week each year at summer camp at Wente Scout Reservation near Willits California. During the summer, we feature a high adventure trip, such as backpacking in the Sierras and treks to the BSA High-Adventure Bases. We currently have the following trips planned:

  • 2024: Sea Base (Florida and St. Thomas)
  • 2025: Northern Tier High Adventure
  • 2026: National Scout Jamboree at Summit Bechtal Reserve (to be run by Pacific Skyline Council)
  • 2027: Philmont Scout Ranch BSA. The 26th World Scout Jamboree will also take place this year near Gdańsk, Poland

Our members are from San Bruno and the surrounding communities including Millbrae, Pacifica and South San Francisco. If you are a boy or girl between 11 and 17 and interested in joining Scouts, you can reach us through the "Contact Us" link on the left side of this page. Follow the "About Us" link to the left to learn more about us.

Sierra Light Backpacking Trip

Posted on Aug 10 2025 - 2:39pm

Scouts went backpacking last weekend for two nights in the Sierras! They hiked, fished, swam, cooked, made campfires, and more. The trip was an amazing introductory trip for the new scouts, while the older scouts used it to complete their cooking requirements.

Will's Eagle Project

Posted on Aug 2 2025 - 12:13pm

Last weekend, scouts helped Will complete his Eagle project of constructing benches for a garden at Allen Elementary. The students at the school will be using them for outdoor lectures.

Northern Tier 2025

Posted on Aug 2 2025 - 12:06pm

The scouts went to Northern Tier in for nine days in mid-July, canoeing through lakes, rivers, and forests. Their sore arms were extremely worth it for the amazing views and experience!

Jocelyn's Eagle Project

Posted on Jul 18 2025 - 12:32am

Jocelyn led the scouts through three work days to complete a mural at Green Hills Elementary School. The painting depicted wonderful scenery as well as the school motto and mascot! The project could not have been finished without the help of all of the volunteers, and it turned out amazing!

The Legendary Bubba

Posted on Jun 22 2025 - 9:24am

Issak caught the legendary bass "Bubba" at summer camp this year! Do you want to catch him too? You can! Issak released him back into the lake and if you join us at Wente in 2026, you can catch Bubba too.
